How the estimate works
For each room, the calculator multiplies length by width to get the area in square feet. It adds the rooms together for a total, then adds a waste allowance based on the layout you choose. Straight lays cut cleanly and waste little. Diagonal and herringbone patterns angle the cuts and create more offcuts, so more material is needed to cover the same area and to avoid running short mid-install.
The waste allowance covers cuts, mistakes, and future repairs. It is better to order a little extra than to come up short, because dye lots and product runs can vary. We confirm the real number with an on-site measurement that accounts for closets, doorways, cabinets, and the actual shape of each room.
