Flooring Installation in DeForest, WI
DeForest has grown along the interstate, with newer neighborhoods spreading out from the older core near the highway corridor. The homes here are young, and a lot of the work we do involves finishing basements that the builder left as concrete, or upgrading the floors the builder installed upstairs.
Because so many DeForest homes are newer, the question we hear most is about below grade spaces. Basements are where the material choice really matters, and it is where solid hardwood is off the table.
Below grade is a different decision
The single biggest flooring decision in a DeForest home is often the basement. Below grade spaces are cooler, more humid, and closer to ground moisture than anything upstairs, and that rules out solid hardwood entirely. Solid hardwood is not recommended below grade, and even engineered products are only an option when the manufacturer specifically rates them for it.
For most DeForest basements, the answer is LVP or tile. Both handle the conditions, both clean up easily, and both let you turn a concrete slab into a real living space. The shared details on each material are on the LVP and tile installation pages.
What waterproof really means
LVP is marketed as waterproof, and its core will not swell or rot from water contact. That is real, but it is not the whole story. Water can still get under the edges and underneath the planks, where it sits against the subfloor. So a spilled drink is fine; a chronic water problem is not. If a DeForest basement has real moisture issues, we talk about addressing those before we install, not after.
Upstairs: builder grade upgrades
Above grade, DeForest's newer homes often have builder grade floors ready to be replaced. Hardwood in the main living spaces, LVP in the mudroom and baths, tile in the entries: the same pairing that works across the area, chosen for how the family uses each room. Newer subfloors are usually close to flat, which keeps prep simple and lets the focus stay on material and layout.
